Alaska AFL-CIO launches blog for Labor 2008

We have launched the Labor 2008 effort, and with it a new blog designed to communicate with union members across Alaska to educate them about the issues and positions of candidates running for election in November. To check out the blog go to www.labor2008.typedpad.com/ak.

This year is a critical year to get working family friendly legislators elected, from President of the United States, to US Senators, to US House of Representatives, to our state legislators. One primary issue to determine whether a candidate is working family friendly is their position on the Employee Free Choice Act. In a nutshell, candidates who support this legislation are with us, candidates who don't are against us.  The primary opposition to this act comes from corporations and corporate sponsored lobbying groups. Most of them claim to be speaking for employees, but union members and other workers around the country should be able to see right through this disingenous tactic. The truth is corporations and their friends are scared of the Employee Free Choice Act because of the power it will take away from them and put back into the hands of rank and file workers across the country.
