National Legislation Related to COVID-19

HR. 6201: Families First Coronavirus Response Act

H.R. 6201 will encourage working people to seek testing for COVID-19 by making the tests free for most people covered by employment-based insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. We believe this is a crucial step to contain the spread of the virus.

STATUS: Passed both bodies and has been signed by the President.

National Stimulus Bill: Agreement with Congress and the White House

This package would provide an additional $600 a week in UI benefits for Americans.

STATUS: Passed both bodies and is on its way to the President who has committed to sign it.

Alaska Legislation Related to COVID-19

HB 308: Unemployment Insurance

This would waive the 1-week waiting period before individuals become eligible to receive UI. It would also allow individuals to receive UI if their hours were cut by 25% or more. Additionally, the dependent benefit would be raised.

STATUS: HB 308 was signed into law on March 26, 2020.

SB 241: COVID-19 Omnibus Relief Bill

This bill would expand telemedicine, move primary elections to vote by mail, halts evictions and foreclosures, and much more. Read about it here.
